I counted every calorie and jogged 20 miles a day which was very hard. However, since reaching my goal weight 7 months ago my weight kept creeping up despite exercising a lot and eating a low fat healthy diet 6 times a day. I ended up binge eating on the weekends and tried every diet to go back to my target weight and failed until I read this book. I used to be obsessed with food, I was either eating or hungry waiting for the next meal. I sometimes ended up binge eating 7,000 kcal or more in one day and then exercising and dieting the whole week to reverse it. Initially it worked but then I was unable to do it and felt more and more fatigued and tired. I almost gave up a month ago and realized I had failed my attempts to keep my weight down. I am so thankful for this book. I have a life again and reached my goal weight (lost the 15 lbs I regained since reaching my goal weight) again with little effort and exercise. My cravings are for the most part gone. In fact, I had to keep a food log because I ended eating not enough calories during the 3 meals.I would recommend for most people to start with larger meals so that 5 to 6 hours between meals will be easier. After one or two weeks your body adapts to the diet and you won't need such large meals anymore. I have not felt full for at least 10 years. I felt stuffed after eating several thousand calories of food while binge eating but not the normal full. My stomach was bursting full and in pain and I was still hungry. After 2 weeks on the "leptin diet" I felt full and I don't have to count calories anymore. In fact, I can eat whatever I want most of the day and feel liberated. No more time consuming meal planning. I focus on getting the breakfast really nice with protein, berries and yogurt which I usually eat as a shake with a piece of low sugar or sugar free cake. The other two meals I eat what I want, I just try to avoid sugar and white flour most of the time.The leptin diet is pretty open with the food choices as long as they don't induce cravings later during the day so you need to play around a bit and see what causes cravings and what not. I noticed after a month that most foods don't induce cravings if I get the breakfast right.Thank you for this book. I am a medical professional myself and I knew a lot of the information already but not the five rules he derived from it. Unfortunately, the doctor also gave me terrible advice for my laundry list of problems: reactive hypoglycemia, high cholesterol, skin problems, high cortisol levels, muscle pain, insomnia, and debilitating cognitive difficulties. My thyroid failed and I moved into menopause abruptly. Thr doctor's dietary advice caused me to gain 30 pounds in 90 days. My former doctor has a successful medical preventative medicine practice in Seattle claiming expertise in metabolism and dietary matters. I had always been slender and fit and I found myself unable to lose the weight. NOTHING worked, even the most draconian dietary methods combined with a serious exercise regime. I began to feel like one of those people we all hear about who say that no matter what, they can't lose weight. Until I was in that spot myself, I could not believe their claims.Fat and sore and miserable, I felt I was on the fast track to dying young. I saw specialists and a naturopath, but made no progress. I was spending a fortune on monthly blood tests and doctor fees and only getting sicker. A blood test showing that I had low leptin levels caught my attention. People who have gastric bypass surgery and anorexia have this problem, and I could not figure out why yet another of my hormone systems was out of balance. I set out to find out if balancing leptin would be the key for me and learned of Byron Richardson's web site and books. It seemed that the leptin "diet" can be used for weight loss, but even more importantly the things you will learn can be used for wellness. Fast forward to 2015: this book literally changed my life. The easy rules allowed me to drop the excess pounds, fixed my reactive hypoglycemia, resolve the brain function issues, eliminated the muscle pain, and even helped with my thyroid. Everything fell back into place for me. I felt better after ten days, so told my doctor about this amazing book. She completely rejected the notion that she could learn something from it. Now she is my former doctor and I have no health problems.I really appreciate the detailed scientific explanations about exactly why certain things (such as eating late at night) are harmful and why other actions/ foods / exercises/ supplements are helpful. This book is not a gimmick - if you follow the program, you will lose weight. And you will never be hungry. I have read and re-read this book on my kindle several times because there is so much information that I find additional value with each re-reading. I'm now at top form, looking and am now feeling truly great. Byron Richards would speak on his podcasts about how he did not want to put together meal plans, but if you purchase Dr. Mark Hyman's website or book "10 Day Detox," the delicious recipes will work for you. His advice is much the same, but I really like the details that Mastering Leptin offers. Just eat whole foods, not things made in factories with ingredients that only a chemist would recognize. Whole foods fill you up. Eat protein first thing for breakfast. Give up breads and sugars. Space your meals. Yes, I can cheat from time to time and I have no guilt about it when I do. I also recognize that when I eat unhealthy things I will not feel well, so I don't cheat often.This book will be well worth the purchase price. No eating after dinner, allow 11-12 hours between dinner and breakfast the following day and finish eating dinner 3 hours before bedtime.2. Eat 3 meals a day, spaced 5-6 hours apart, with no snacking.3. Do not consume large meals, eat slowly.4. Eat a protein with breakfast.5. Reduce the amount of starchy carbohydrates.In LESS THAN A WEEK, I am not hungry between meals, have no sugar cravings, and can literally feel the excess fat melting off my body, with my jeans already looser. What a miracle! This makes so much sense; I can't wait to finish reading. There is so much misinformation out there, especially about eating 6 small meals a day which actually is counterproductive.
