I know rice and beans, which was confirmed to me my Candice Nielsen in her book, is a complete protein, including the nine essential amino acids which the body is not able to produce on its own. So, we do need to eat and we do need all nine. The author introduces a few other foods and combinations of foods like rice and beans that fulfill this complete protein. There's quinoa, buckwhean, humpseed, chia see, soy and quom. Good and important book giving us the missing ingredient. The recipe part of the book includes some great recipes like Peanut Tofu Wrap and Coconut Curry Lentil Soup as well as Sweet Potato Black Bean Veggie Burgers.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.Happy cooking!By Carolyn SWhen it comes to cookbooks, my husband and I are big fans of the internet. You can leaf through a normal book and get an idea of whether it’s any good, but you can’t really decide about a cookbook until you try it. So we like to borrow first, then buy if it’s great.And so we’ve tried a bunch in our short three and a half years of being vegetarian. Anyway, my point is that we’ve tried a ton of cookbooks, and we usually end up buying our favorites. And from this handful of favorites, we cook probably 90% of the meals we make.When I think of this book, I see simple, seasonal, whole ingredients. Though it doesn’t say so anywhere on the cover, the book is entirely vegan and mostly gluten-free, too. This is my favorite cookbook for finding what’s fresh at the farmer’s market and making it for dinner that night. The recipes are unique and interesting, and in general, the ingredients used are fresh, often raw, superfoods that he combines in simple smoothies, salads, sauces, meals and desserts - and somehow they turn out to be delicious.This book is amazingly refreshing. Ordinary books would mention soy and tofu but not much else. With this book, protein is the primary theme of the book so the info is more in-depth highlighting other protein-rich vegan ingredients and how to put them to good use in the form of recipes.Really a great guide and may just consider going vegan after some great experiences with some of the recipes I tried so far!See all 18 customer reviews...
